With fall comes cold weather and leaves, and lots of leaves at that. With their brilliant colors the casual way they float to the ground, it’s hard to imagine that they can be incredibly harmful to a your fence or deck, especially if they are made of wood. If they gather and settle for too long, an accumulation of dirt and moisture entrapment can lead to wet rot, mold and mildew.
This is why it is best to remove all leaves and debris whenever you spot them gathering on your fence or deck. You may even benefit from using a pressure washer on your fence and deck once in a while to ensure that they are clean from damaging substances that may exist on the surface. Just a bit of white vinegar can clear stubborn dirt and stains. Make a solution of 1 cup of vinegar and a gallon of water. Apply on the fence with a sprayer and allow 10 minutes for the solution to do its magic. Then you can bet that it is ready to be power washed.
It doesn’t take much to increase the longevity of your fence or deck, and if you are able to protect them from the harsh environments of the season, you increase their longevity for years to come.
